Hi, I’m Michelle Hickner. This blog discusses researchers’ takes on common gardening practices, with some diversions into garden design, and what’s happening in my garden.
I bought a house in 2010 with a good-sized but weedy garden in Seattle (USDA Zone 8b), so this blog also is a chronicle of its transformation from overgrown shrubs and a scraggly lawn to my perfect garden. Since my idea of a perfect garden changes every month, there will be no shortage of updates on that front.
I share my garden with my partner, Brian, and my bearded collie, Picket, who is sometimes mistaken for a muppet. When I’m not in the garden, my days are spent working as an engineer, or getting distracted by wildflowers while rock climbing in the Cascades.
